The modern-day rancher must address many roles - businessman, cowboy, farrier, and many other tasks - a jack of all trades. This painting illustrates the process of one of those roles, that of the farrier. The multiple images communicate the process over an approximately half hour time period, from preparations, to cleaning, trimming, filing and reshoeing, to completion. This process is repeated numerous times during the year and is just one of the many tasks necessary to keep the ranch going. The monochromatic depiction suggests the traditional nature of this particular task. This painting was done on the Quinn Ranch during my 2025 Texas Ranch Fellowship, sponsored by the San Angelo Museum of Fine Art, and was exhibited at the museum at the conclusion of the fellowship.
